Swan Song in Cosplay, Again

Thanks to the new CDC guidelines placing quite a few people, including myself, back into the "donut hole" when it comes to eligibility for the Freedom Needles, I'm very concerned that COVID-19 could make a comeback. While it isn't necessarily the Death Sentence that it once was, treatment isn't as easy as grabbing some over-the-counter medication. Paxlovid may be effective in reducing the effects of the virus in the body, but people like me might not even be eligible for that. Then there's the possibility of "long covid".

That being said, I've dropped any plans to go to crowded events such as comic conventions after SacAnime on August 31. That will be another "swan song" for me, six years after I tried one last cosplay gathering in San Diego. Many people who go to conventions are likely also ineligible for vaccines, and "con crud" could bring harsher reality.

Another major factor in this decision is that there was energy towards a panel with myself included rather than just a bunch of cosplay celebs but then got the "hopefully next year" response when I asked if this was still going to happen.

SacAnime will be my final bid for visibility as a cosplayer, as I plan to wear my favorite space suit as Captain Olimar to a Nintendo gathering followed by a "mini session" photoshoot, and then will go into "explorer mode" cruising the Main Exhibit Hall and trying to find a booth run by a family that I'm following on Facebook with their journey through adolescent cancer treatment.

I do have a "mask-alternate" bubble that I wore during the mask mandates, but that provides limited protection and is mainly an adaptation for running errands without going into autistic tactile defensiveness, and not a true "isolator suit".

And no, I'm not going to roll the dice when it comes to the possibility of catching a bug and brining it home or to others.

I'll still do things like Trunk or Treat and smaller cosplay gatherings, and my cosplay collection will be "on reserve" for a possible brighter future.
