July 2026: Month of Healing


This year, I had anticipated being on a panel with a major "cosplayers of age" group followed by an epic photoshoot. That never happened, and will never happen in all likelihood. That being said, though, I found out about an upcoming X-Men photoshoot gathering in San Francisco which turned out to be an awesome day of cosplay, much like the cosplay gatherings back in the day. Even on the drive back home, I crossed the Richmond-San Mateo bridge which brought a sort of nostalgic pang with driving across the low causeway across water with the tall lampposts on either side (I might look for an opportunity to drive it at night), and the Bay waters on either side.

Two weeks later, another group put together a "classic" cosplay gathering in Land Park in Sacramento, and that definitely brought back the awesomeness of the gatherings that used to be run by a particular individual who unfortunately had to move to a new home 100 miles away. The photos and videos are still coming back from both of these!

On top of all that, the Sacramento Spider-Verse had a couple of TV appearances for the new movie Spider-Man Brand New Day, and I was at one of those, and fully included (not just hidden somewhere).







My favorite Captain Olimar (Pikmin) cosplay will definitely be out there again in the near future, and perhaps I'll get that panel after all.

Swan Song in Cosplay, Again

Thanks to the new CDC guidelines placing quite a few people, including myself, back into the "donut hole" when it comes to eligibility for the Freedom Needles, I'm very concerned that COVID-19 could make a comeback. While it isn't necessarily the Death Sentence that it once was, treatment isn't as easy as grabbing some over-the-counter medication. Paxlovid may be effective in reducing the effects of the virus in the body, but people like me might not even be eligible for that. Then there's the possibility of "long covid". That being said, I've dropped any plans to go to crowded events such as comic conventions after SacAnime on August 31. That will be another "swan song" for me, six years after I tried one last cosplay gathering in San Diego. Many people who go to conventions are likely also ineligible for vaccines, and "con crud" could bring harsher reality. Another major factor in this decision is that there was energy towar...

Will 2026 be a Swan Song for me?      The past few years have been an emotional roller-coaster, with both the epic events and the miss-outs. A few weeks ago, I realized that there was no energy into a group entry in the Sacramento St. Patrick's Day Parade, so I put in an application for my Dizzy Dave, and turned out to be just in time to be in the parade which ran today. I had a lot of fun there, and got a lot of response from people, but it just isn't the same as being part of a "squad" whether in a parade with "victory lunch" after, or a cosplay meet-up, or doing some cool "action shots".
